Armenia’s Rich Christian History and Current Challenges
Armenia ranks as one of the world’s oldest nations, with over 3,000 years of history. It became the first nation to adopt Christianity as its state religion in 301 AD. Armenia’s Christian heritage is deeply woven into its identity. However, the 20th century brought significant challenges. Both World Wars and Soviet control engulfed Armenia for decades. During this time, the government nearly silenced the church’s voice. Despite these hardships, the Armenian church continues to grow.
A Strategic Location for Ministry
Surrounded by nations where 98% of the population follows Islam, Armenia occupies a strategic position between Europe and Asia. This gives the Armenian church a unique opportunity to serve as a “Lighthouse for Christ in a Sea of Islam.”
Since 2014, Armenia Bible College has trained pastors and church leaders to meet this challenge. The college provides students with theological training and leadership skills, preparing them to take the Gospel across Armenia and neighboring nations. Graduates are already serving churches, planting new congregations, and crossing borders to spread the message of Christ in other nations.
Armenia Bible College envisions revitalizing the Armenian church and sending missionaries to Europe, Central Asia, and the Middle East. Though traditional missionary efforts often struggle to reach these regions, Armenian graduates have the cultural and linguistic skills to bridge the gaps and take the Gospel where Western missionaries cannot.
