The Assemblies of God sponsors more than 70 schools and universities worldwide. These institutions offer different levels of education, from diplomas to doctorate programs. In today’s blog from Global University, we will discuss why the Assemblies of God sponsors so many colleges and why it’s an important component of our mission.
Spreading the Word of God
First Peter 3:15 says “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.”
As an evangelical church, we believe this is the mission of every member of the Assemblies of God. When we enter the church and are baptized in the name of God, we become disciples of Christ. This means spreading the Word of God to everyone we meet, like those who are lost and others who have been found but need more education.
Education as a First Step
It’s difficult to truly educate someone in need of God’s message if you haven’t studied it. We believe learning about the Bible is a necessary component to being an effective disciple. Getting to know the Bible can happen in several ways.
Those not seeking a formal education can grow their knowledge through attending worship services and independent Bible studies. We encourage anyone, from toddlers to seniors, to attend regular Bible studies.
However, if you believe you are being called by God to turn your faith into more than just fellowship—if you believe your passion for Christ should be your career—then enrolling in a college sponsored by the Assemblies of God may be the perfect next step for you.
Turning Passion Into a Career
There are many different ways to leverage your faith into a rewarding career. Some colleges offer traditional degrees in mathematics, psychology, liberal arts, history, and more. Incorporating a strong campus faith life and Bible study curriculum, students can build a career in one of these fields while still being a strong disciple of Christ.
Other colleges, like Global University, offer certifications and degrees in ministry, Bible and theology, intercultural studies, New Testament, chaplaincy, and pastoral counseling.
Courses in ministry and evangelism can center around intense study of the Bible, theology, the church, Christian ethics, and effective ways of communicating.
Intercultural studies prepares students to preach and teach the Word of God within various groups and cultures. They can conduct programs in local churches with diverse memberships across the country and around the world. Modern disciples accomplish this through interpreting the Bible correctly, demonstrating a working knowledge of the history and application of Christian theology, and conducting programs that create a vibrant way of learning and support of the Christian faith.
Reaching Those Around the World
”As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.” (John 17:18)
There are more than 40 colleges and universities sponsored by the Assemblies of God that operate beyond the borders of the United States. These have been established to offer an education in the Word of God to residents of those countries who have been called to preach and teach. This continues the mission of the church as commissioned by Christ himself, to spread the word to all nations.
Global University and The Assemblies of God
