Global University is the distance-learning arm of the Assemblies of God Church. Our vision is to win the lost and train the found around the world. What does the Assemblies of God believe? Global University answers that question in today’s blog.
16 Doctrines
All Assemblies of God churches adhere to 16 doctrines. They stem from a fundamental belief in the Heavenly Father, His Son Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. Four of these doctrines—Salvation, baptism in the Holy Spirit, divine healing, and the second coming of Christ—are cardinal doctrines essential to the church’s mission of reaching the world for Christ. For Global University, this means ministering to the lost and teaching those who find Christ as their Savior.
Salvation of Mankind
Salvation comes through true repentance toward God and faith in Jesus Christ. Justified by faith, believers become renewed and regenerated heirs in the kingdom of God and the hope of eternal life. Inward evidence of salvation comes from a direct witness of the Holy Spirit, while outward evidence is leading a righteous life and true holiness. Salvation of the lost is what drives Global University’s mission as part of the Assemblies of God.
Baptism of the Holy Spirit
The Assemblies of God believes baptism in the Holy Spirit means receiving an overflowing fullness of the Spirit, a deepened reverence for God, dedication to His work, and a more active love for Christ. Baptism in water is an outward sign of this inward grace. It usually follows a salvation experience wherein you accept Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior. If you are led to become a church leader, part of that leadership is physically baptizing believers in water, to symbolize their death to sin and new life in Christ.
Divine Healing
Divine healing is a vital part of the Gospels. Of Jesus’ 37 recorded miracles, 20 of them were instantaneous and divine healings. Jesus healed the blind, sick, leprous, and crippled. That same divine healing is available to all believers. The Assemblies of God believes that deliverance from sickness is provided for through atonement and by the grace of the Holy Spirit.
Second Coming of Christ
The Bible prophesies the second coming of Christ. As such, the Assemblies of God believes in the rapture of the saints followed by the visible return of Christ with His saints to reign on Earth for 1,000 years. The millennial reign brings the salvation of Israel and universal peace.
